8 Home Remodeling Projects to Tackle this Summer

Home remodeling projects can seem to be never-ending, but you may want to get used to them since it is part of being a homeowner.  Speaking of those home remodeling projects, were you aware that there is sometimes a better time of the year for some home remodeling projects than others?

It’s true!

Almost all outdoor work is best done during warmer weather, while some inside jobs are better during the winter or the summer.  It all depends on the project and how important that space is to your life. This is why we want to share the remodeling projects that are best completed during the summer months.

Here are 8 home remodeling projects to tackle this summer:

1. Add a Coat of Paint

Yes, you can paint at any time throughout the year, but we find that it is a project for the early summer months.  The reason for this is that you can open your windows and let your entire home air out, so you do not need to inhale the fumes. We recommend painting on a day that the humidity is not too high and obviously when it is not raining. It is also usually best if you start this project early in the morning so that the paint can dry easily throughout the rest of the day.

2. Add Some Landscape

The summer months are the perfect time to spruce up your landscaping a little.  We recommend planting a tree, some shrubs, maybe even a few plants to add some color and fragrance to your yard.  All your new landscaping will add value to your home, while also providing your home with some necessary shade to keep your energy costs down.

3. Clean Your Exterior

A good cleaning is normally necessary after the long hard winter months, even if you live somewhere that it doesn’t snow or get too cold!  Pressure washing the exterior of your home, as well as your patio, fencing, deck, and other items is an excellent way to get everything looking sparkling new once again.  The pressure washer will help remove all dirt, grime, mold, mildew, and even algae.  While you can do this on your own, you may want to hire a professional to ensure that you do not damage any materials in the process.

4. Install a Programmable Thermostat

Installing a programmable thermostat is one of the easiest home remodeling projects that you can tackle during the summer months. While any programmable thermostat will do, you may want to consider one of the smart options. The smart options allow you to control them from any device, like your phone!  The best part about this project is that your new thermostat will have you saving money on your energy bills.

5. Construct a Deck

If you do not have a deck in your yard yet, or your deck needs to be replaced, summer is the best time to get this home remodeling project started and finished.

We recommend that you do this early enough in the season so that you can spend as much time outside the rest of the summer as possible.  You can make your deck as small or as large as you want, just make sure that it fits both your current and future needs.  We also recommend that you create some type of outdoor kitchen space on your deck, so that you can spend as much time outside as you can.  You can just have a grill, or you can go all out with a refrigerator, pizza oven, dishwasher, cabinets, counter-tops, and more.  The best part is that once you have this feature, you can easily remodel your indoor kitchen and won’t miss a beat.

6. Remodel Your Kitchen

There really isn’t a fantastic time of the year to do a kitchen remodel, but the summer months give you more options than all the others.  At least during the summer, you can cookout on the grill, utilize your outdoor kitchen space, go on picnics, and simply stay out of your kitchen until the work is completed.  You can do as much as you wish during the remodeling process, while knowing that you are not going to be missing out on family time at the same time.  If you are looking for a full remodel, plan on tearing almost everything out and replacing it.  However, if you are only looking to do a few things, we recommend updating the lighting, replacing appliances, installing a new floor, adding an island if possible, and updating your back-splash.

7. Repair Concrete

Concrete doesn’t always need to be replaced or repaired but is sometimes necessary. When you decide to tackle a concrete repair home remodeling project, it needs to be during the summer months. The reason for this is that concrete and all other masonry projects require hot temperatures so that the materials can cure properly. If you choose to do these projects during the summer you will find that it will yield the best results.

8.Install New Windows

While you can definitely have new windows installed on the coldest days of the year, we normally recommend the summer months.  While it is warm outside, and those warm temperatures will get inside, it doesn’t take long for each window to be taken out and completely replaced.  This is a super easy project to tackle and you will find that you can instantly increase the value of your home with one day’s worth of work or less.

The best part of these eight home remodeling projects that should be tackled during the summer months is that they can all be completed while you are on vacation.  That means that you can be completely enjoying yourself, away from the mess and the clutter, while your contractor makes your home look better than ever before.  And don’t worry, with technology these days, you will be no further away than a quick video chat away to ensure that everything is going as planned.
